Q:
Is it possible for this board to power devices other than servos, such as small 3 volt relays or solenoids?
Asked by: Gazza
A:
Hi there,

Thank you for your question, I am afraid it is not possible to run solenoids and relays from the servo control board as it only does servos. But you should certainly be able to control a solenoid from our motor driver board or robotics board.

Q:
Hello Kitronik. Could you please tell me where to find or how to add the 12C 16-Servo block to the makecode editor please? Thanks.
Asked by: Johnny
A:
Hi Johnny,

Thank you for your question, if you go onto the micro:bit code editor and on the left hand side you click on the advanced option. Then at the bottom of the new section you can click on extensions. This brings up a new screen and you just type into there Kitronik and you should be able to see all our custom blocks. If you left click on the option you want and that will add the blocks to the code.

Q:
Can I use 4x AAA batteries to operate the card with 10 servos? If not what is the alternative number of the conventional AA or AAA packed together?
Asked by: Mustafa
A:
Hi Mustafa,

Thank you for your question, you should be able to power 10 servos from 3 x AAA batteries with this board. I would not recommend putting 4 x AAA batteries in as the max voltage these can take is 5.5V and with 4 batteries you would exceed this recommended amount.

Q:
If you have a continuous rotation servo motor(rotates 360 degrees) how would you stop the motor using the Kitronik 16 servo board.
Asked by: Stuart Greenhalgh
A:
Hi Stuart,

Thank you for your question. Much like 180 degree servos you can tell a 360 degrees to turn to between 1 and 180. If you set it to 1 it will turn as fast as possible in one direction if you set it to 180 it will rotate the opposite way. If you set it to 90 this should stop fully. You may need to do some playing with the screws in the bottom of the servo to fine turn this however.

Q:
Hi,
Would you be able to give some info on how the Motor Driver Board and Servo Driver boards that are stacked together in your example video talk to eachother? Can we just slot them onto each other with header pins and use the respective Kitronik code extensions? Or do we need to do any more advanced pin assigning?
Thanks,
Tim
Asked by: Tim Parker
A:
Hi Tim,

Thank you for your question, you are correct you can just connect them with header pins and then you can carry on using the same blocks as before with no extra pin assigning needed. We have an upcoming product code 4162 that should be going live shortly that provides all the pin headers and spacers required to do this as well.

Q:
Which pins on the Microbit are used to drive which servos? I ask because I need to use pins 0, 1 and 2 for their resistive touch sensing functionality (i.e. on pin pressed(P0) and so on). Thanks...
Asked by: Marty
A:
Hi Marty, The servos are all controlled by the I2C pins on the micro:bit. So all the standard pins are still free to use.

Q:
Dear Kitronik, love your motor driver board v2. Do you have some example micro-python code that I can use for the servo driver board? I teach in schools and we only use the mu editor with micro-python.
Thanks

Edmond Lascaris
Asked by: Edmond Lascaris
A:
Hi Edmond, Thank you for the positive feedback, it's great to know you liked the board, hopefully the 16 servo board is just as great for you. We currently haven't wrote any just yet, however it is something we are looking at. As such we will contact you direct regarding this.
