This transparent 3mm Perspex Acrylic Sheet measures 1000mm x 600mm. The surfaces of the sheets have a high gloss finish. Transparent Perspex sheets will allow light to pass through clearly, enabling objects to be distinguished through the material, though the view is tinted by the colour of the Perspex. We have seen these sheets used to great effect in lighting designs. Kitronik stock a range of colours in our transparent acrylic range.

Features:

  • High gloss surface.
  • Very high light transmission.
  • ‘Colour tinted’ transparency.
  • Easily laser cut, drilled and thermoformed.

Applications:

Transparent Perspex acrylic sheets have many applications such as lighting designs, point of sale, model making, signs, artistic and architectural installation, casings, etc.

Working with Perspex acrylic sheets:

Perspex is a versatile material that can be cut, drilled, laser cut and thermoformed.

Perspex is a thermoplastic which means that when it is heated above 140-180°C it becomes flexible. This allows the material to be formed into the required shape or bent. Once the material cools below 85°C it becomes rigid again.

Perspex sheets are often shaped using a CNC router or laser cutter. The edge of laser cut Perspex has a pleasing polished look. If you look carefully at the edge of a piece of laser cut Perspex you can often see slight vertical lines that are caused by the pulses a laser uses when cutting.

If you want to get a perfectly smooth finish on the edge of piece of machined Perspex a polishing technique can be used. Typical polishing techniques include diamond polishing and flame polishing.

It also possible to etch the surface of a Perspex sheet using a laser cutter. This can produce some very pleasing visual effects. The Perspex sheets have a protective film on both faces. If you are etching the material then this should be removed from the surface that is to be etched. If you are just laser cutting then this film can be left in place (if you wish) as it does not create any harmful gases when it is laser cut (unlike PVC).

More detailed information and resources on working with Perspex can be found in our resource section.

Answered by the admin It works well for laser cutting with a 40W or greater laser. It is not suitable for vacuum forming however. You want high impact polystyrene for that.

Answered by the admin Hello Phil, If you shine a light through red transparent Perspex you will get a red light. Transparent Perspex is see through like clear Perspex but with a red tint. It will not diffuse the light in any way.
  8. Hi, I am looking for a tinted perspex material that would let differing amounts of light through from a single to perhaps 6 or 7 layers. Would this product still allow some light from led lighting to pass through 7 layers?

Answered by the admin I?'ve just piled seven sheets of the transparent green Perspex next to each other and if you hold it up to the light you can just about see the light, I suspect that you might be better with a maximum of 5 sheets if you want to get a noticeable amount of light out through it. But to answer your question you will get different light levels depending upon the number of sheets.
