Working with Acrylic sheets:

Acrylic is a versatile material that can be cut, drilled, laser cut, and thermoformed with standard workshop tools.

As a thermoplastic, it becomes flexible when heated to around 140–180°C, allowing you to bend or form it. Once cooled below approximately 85°C, it returns to a rigid state.

Acrylic sheets are commonly shaped using CNC routers or laser cutters. Laser-cut edges have a polished appearance, often showing fine vertical lines created by the laser pulses.

For a perfectly smooth edge on machined Acrylic, polishing techniques such as diamond polishing or flame polishing can be used.

Laser etching can also be applied to the surface to create detailed and visually striking effects.

Tolerances:

  • The manufacturing tolerance for the thickness of cast silver mirrored acrylic acrylic sheets is the stated thickness +/-10% plus +/- 0.4mm. This means a 3mm Acrylic sheet could be between 2.3mm and 3.7mm in thickness.
  • Please note that it is possible for there to be slight colour variations between batches.
  • The manufacturing process for these sheets can lead to variances in length and width measurements between batches. Tolerances of up to +/- 1.7% are possible. The maximum we have recorded is plus 10mm to a length measurement.
