  • These orders are sent via UPS, and the cost is dependant on the service you choose at checkout. Q:
Would this work with the high power amp and crossover? You mention with the high powered amp it would not work to its full potential. What is the best way to get the most from this woofer paired with a tweeter. Using this for a portable speaker project. Thanks

Hi Gino,

Thank you for your email, these would work with the High Power Amp and Cross over but as mentioned not to their full potential. The speakers are rated to 250W and the kit only to 15W so it would be a bit like putting a teacup of water in a large basin. You can do it but you are not actually really making effective use of the equipment. The way you would get more use out of it is to have a higher rated Amplifier project e.g. around the 250W mark.

Hi Yusuf, You could use this with the high powered amp kit, but you wouldn't use it to the full potential. Also this is a woofer speaker, so is designed to handle low frequency sound.

The woofer doesn’t require a power supply as the power required to move the speaker is forced through from the amplifier. If you use our high powered amp kit at with this woofer at best you will still only get 30W as that is the maximum the amplifier kit can produce, In reality less than this because half the power output will be high frequencies that the woofer can’t deal with.

In order to get a good frequency response from your speaker you would want the woofer on this page to take care of the low frequencies and a tweeter to take care of the higher frequencies giving a good output across the range. Unfortunately it isn't as straightforward as just connecting a woofer and a tweeter to the output of your stereo. What needs to happen is that the audio is split up and the high frequency component goes to the tweeter and the low frequency component goes to the woofer. This is in actual fact easy to do and just requires the use of a crossover. The crossover has a pair of input connections that come from the stereo and then a connection to go to the woofer and one to go to the tweeter. On simple crossovers the cut off frequency is fixed, on more complicated crossovers there is the option to set the frequency at which the the signal goes to the woofer or tweeter so the response of the two speakers can be best catered for.

So in order to answer your question in addition to the woofer you would need a tweeter and a cross over.
