Every year, Fernwood School hosts a 'Design Day' for Year 9 students where external companies run workshops to show what they are doing in relation to D&T. This year, over 11 companies provided workshops including Dyson, Boots and us! In celebration of the success of the Design Day, Fernwood School have produced this fantastic video highlighting all of the action below:
The day highlighted the use of D&T in the workplace and showed how necessary D&T is in different companies. We think the video captured the essence of the day, and shows students getting stuck into all of the workshops. It truly was 'A day where the only option was creativity'. Thanks to the success of the concrete workshops, we teamed up with Kerry Truman from the Design & Built Environment School at Nottingham Trent University to make concrete lamps. After the Design Day, the lamps were displayed in the 'Illumine' show at Nottingham Trent University in the Newton building for a week. A photo of the display is below: Below is a list of all of the companies who ran workshops on the Design Day:
Graffiti Artist Peter Barber.
Nottingham Trent University & Kitronik.
Wollaton Pub & Kitchen.
We loved running the workshop for the students with NTU and can't wait to show more students next year! To keep up to date with all of the shows and events, you can sign up to our newsletter here.
