Further Information

Q:
Good Morning

We are using your Kitronic Deluxe MP3 amplifier kits with our GCSE group and we have some left over ICSAT "sound to light" and "light chaser". modules that we would like our more capable students to incorporate with your kit/ I've confirmed that this is possible with ICSAT however their kits are 3 v to 5v and the Kitronic Amp kit is 9 volt.

Is it possible we can piggy back off the Deluxe MP3 kit 9v supply using the L7805 5V Reg IC ? and if so can you recommend the best way to do this.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Hi Peter, You can run the amp kit from as little as 2V, however the higher the supply the better the quality. As such powering from a 9V supply you would be able to attach the regulator without an issue. You would take the positive supply from the amp kit and connect this to the input on the regulator, the ground would be the negative from the amp and also to the negative of the module. The output from the regulator would then be connected to the positive supply on the module. This should work without a problem, however to smooth any spikes out you could connect a 100nF capacitor across the input and ground connection as well as the output and ground connection.

Q:
I am looking for a l7805 reg Ic but that can output 2.1a@5v does the L7805 have a bigger brother?
Thx

A:

There are a range of fixed voltage regulators that will give you 5V at a higher current, such as the MC7805CT. Unfortunately our range of ICs is designed to allow students to do simple GSCE projects and as a result we don’t have a range of regulator ICs. I can only suggest searching on 5V fixed voltage regulator and you should be able to find some options.

Best regards

Michael.
