Q:
My son has made this kit at school and he was so happy to show us but when he tried to play music through it he was very dissapointed the sound was very bad rumble when turned up past half way and only one speaker worked properly i have looked at the soldering and all looks fine its v1.1 board i have also checked his speaker wires and all is fine im stuck as to how to help him fix this please help if you can
Asked by: Scott
A:
Hi Scott, This seems a little odd as the kit is a pre-built version it should have been tested prior to leaving us, however it is possible that a fault wasn't picked up. As such the best option is to take a photo of the top and bottom of the circuit board to support@kitronik.co.uk and we will take a further look.

Q:
im wondering if I can use a conventional usb lead to power the PCB instead of a 9V battery. the usb has 4 wire in which two are red and black used to power the device. im asking if this will be safe to wire it up to the pcb having it plug into a wall mount with a usb port.
Asked by: keygan
A:
Hi Keygan, You can power this kit with a voltage between 2-15V, so a 5V supply would be fine. The kit also draws around 180mA, so as long as the USB power adaptor is rated to 500mA or over that should also be fine. I am unsure as to why your USB cable has 4 cables, the standard one we stock has 2 https://www.kitronik.co.uk/4101-usb-power-lead.html and would be fine with this kit.

Q:
I am looking for a pre made kit for an Ipad. How easy can is it toI attach the speakers to the board. Will the unit price go down if I purchase 500+ ? Regards Jon
Asked by: Jon Formon
A:
Hi Jon, It's a 2 minute job to attach the speakers. 10 solder joints including both the speakers and the PP3 clip. There is a 10% discount on this kit if you order over 300 units. It is explained in more detail here http://www.kitronik.co.uk/ordering/bulk-buy-discount-for-kits/

Q:
Ok well I'm glad I waited for a response! I am a complete layman with electronics but I've got a project to complete that needs surround sound. Is it possible to use 2 amplifiers that were somehow connected together and each amp would connect to 4 speakers?? Or what strength amp would be best for 8 of the 50mm speakers?
Asked by: Lindsey
A:
True surround sound works by having many different audio channels so each speaker plays a different sound. Mono has one channel so all speakers would make the same sound and stereo has 2 channels, a left and a right. Dolby 5.1 surround sound has 5 different channels (front centre, front left, front right, back left, back right) and the .1 stands for the sub woofer that makes the deep bass sounds. Unfortunately none of our kits can output more than 2 channels. If you must have 8 speakers however you could use 4 stereo amp kits and connect the same audio input to all of them. They would each need their own power supply (9
V battery/wall adaptor) though. You might get a slight echo from them as minor differences in the components might cause them to be very slightly out of synch. Then again I don't know if this would be noticeable. You might be able to get away with adding 2 extra speakers per kit by wiring them in parallel with the original speakers (wiring the extra speakers into the same place as the standard ones.), that way you would only need 2 stereo amps.

Q:
Hi are you able to make this but with 4 speakers? I need one reasonably cheap for my A-Level D&T course. If you could please make a custom one with 4 speakers, 3.5mm jack input and a on/off switch. I will buy it online from you Please & Thanks! Email me if its possible
Asked by: Zak
A:
Yes the IC will drive a four ohm load (two 8 ohm speakers in parallel) so you can connect two speakers to each output. However it won't be any louder or any better quality audio. If you want an on board on off switch then the deluxe amplifier might be a better option see: http://www.kitronik.co.uk/products/project-kits/ic-based-kits/deluxe-stereo-audio-amplifier-kit/ If you just want to add a power switch have a look at the following tutorial: http://www.kitronik.co.uk/resources/tutorials/how-to-add-a-power-switch-and-led-to-your-project-kit/ (No need to fit the LED & resistor if you don?t want them) If you need extra speakers see: http://www.kitronik.co.uk/products/components/audio/speakers/66mm-speaker-pack-of-10/

Q:
can i use this to power my tooth tunes toothbrush
Asked by: mike hunt
A:
You would need to be able to get access to the audio output from the toothbrush which I suspect may involve destroying it, not that I've seen one to be able to state with that any certainty. If you can get to the 0V signal and the audio signal then yes you could connect it to this kit and use your tooth brush as an audio source.

Q:
Hi, I'm looking for a smallish but good quality battery powered power amplifier kit for a project. It needs to be a minimum of around 5watts output per channel, but can be more. It won't need any volume or balance controls as volume etc can be controlled by the sources I'm intending to use- tiny MP3 and DAB radio players. I have speaker drive units already so won't need any of those either. Do you have anything suitable, or can you recommend something if not please? Many thanks, Paul.
Asked by: Paul Tercel
A:
Hello Paul, The output power of this kit is 1W at 9V. It sounds pretty loud. If you need a louder kit please take a look at the Audio Amplifier kit in the SparkFun section. Kevin
