Kitronik went to the CSTA Annual Conference 2024 in Vegas

Last week, 16th - 19th July, Jasleen joined our good friends from OKdo and headed to Las Vegas for the CSTA Annual Conference 2024. She got to speak to lots of Computer Science teachers, mostly about the micro:bit, and gained a little insight into how the subject is taught in the US, and made a lot of new friends along the way.

Microsoft ran two micro:bit sessions and used our very own Arcade gamers as props. We also took our Lesson in a Box kits and LAB:bit, which both went down very well with the attendees, especially the cross curricular aspects of the kits.

What is CSTA?

The CSTA, Computer Science Teacher's Association, understands that teaching computer science is hard. That’s why their dedicated team and teacher-led Board of Directors has focused on creating a strong environment to support K–12 educators.

They have created a community that is;

  • Is led by K-12 computer science teachers, and puts teacher needs at the forefront.
  • Shares the latest best practices in K-12 computer science education.
  • Creates local communities across the US + Canada that make sure every computer science teacher has a home.
  • Builds the largest teacher-led computer science professional development event in the world each year!
  • Provides access to exclusive discounts on courses and tools that will take your teaching practice to the next level.

We'd like to thank OKdo for being good enough to invite us along, we had such a great time and met lots of informative and interesting Teachers. We hope to come back to future events, so that we can catch up with everyone we met this time and make some new friends too.
