At the end of January a team from Kitronik participated in Fernwood School's Design Day!
Geoff, Aaron and
Kevin joined other technology professionals from Dyson,
Triumph Motorcycles,
Bloodhound SSC, CBP Architects, Jaguar/Land Rover and
Nottingham Trent University. The aim of the day was to provide the Year 9 students with a taste of real life industrial practice. Our team provided challenges for pupils.
Activities for the pupils included CAD design and soldering. Pupils got to choose from a selection of
electronics kits from the Kitronik range. They learned how to solder the kit before designing a mounting plate for that kit, writing instructions for making their design and then photographing the finished item!
The year 9 students were also presented challenges from Dyson and Triumph which involved product design. There were also cookery tasks organised by Wheatcroft Foods. Some pupils worked on a mural designed by Graffiti artist
Peter Barber which is
recorded in a cool time lapse.
The students produced some interesting and novel designs including this easel style shade for the

The whole day was a great success and has been written up by Fernwood School and the Nottingham Evening Post and you can see the highlights in this compilation video posted by Fernwood School on You Tube.
