New Product Update: Raspberry Pi Accessories and Starter Packs
Next month, as many of you will already know, England will become the first country in the world to mandate computer programming in primary and secondary schools. Children will start learning to write code when they enter school at the age of five and will continue to do so until the age of sixteen at least. With these new changes, we've introduced a whole host of new Raspberry Pi add-on boards, hardware drivers, accessories and starter packs...

The Pibrella (above) is a perfect little add-on to drive motors, make sounds, and learn how to interface electronics with your Pi! Includes all you need for instant fun projects. It is easy-to-use and is clearly labelled. Pibrella works with Python or Scratch and full code libraries are available. The board can drive bigger loads than the Pi GPIO can handle (motors, relays, solenoids, etc.). Indicator LEDs on all input and output channels make debugging your circuits and coding a breeze.

Features:

  • Tactile switch.
  • Red, green and amber LEDs.
  • Pizeo speaker.
  • 4 protected inputs.
  • 5 high-power outputs.

PiGlow

rasberry_pi_accesories_blog_560_02 The PiGlow is a small add on board for the Raspberry Pi that provides 18 individually controllable LEDs. This board uses the SN3218 8-bit 18-channel PWM chip to drive 18 surface mount LEDs. Communication is done via I2C over the GPIO header with a bus address of 0x54 (Python example code provided). Each LED can be set to a PWM value of between 0 and 255. You can use it for mood lighting / ambience, showing current system load, notify you of events like mentions in tweets or incoming e-mail, and pretty much anything else you can think of!

Features:

  • 18 LEDs (three each of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and white).
  • Great to provide feedback if you're running your Pi headless.
  • PWM (dimming) control for each channel.
  • Fully assembled (no soldering required).
  • Python code to access and control lighting provided.
