Once you’ve mastered starting off your stitches, the next step is to finish off the ends of your stitches securely to stop them from coming undone.
Take your needle to the reverse side of the fabric. Insert the needle under the stitches that you have created. Alternatively, pick up a small amount of the fabric.
Repeat this process 2 or 3 times and then cut the thread close to the stitches.
If you are concerned that the finishing stitch will come undone, a small dab of clear nail varnish or a textiles product called Fray Stop will prevent this.
Once you’ve mastered starting off your stitches you’re ready to move on to the next article in this series; creating a basic circuit with a standard LED.
